Hospital英式和美式的区别大吗

in hospital 和 in the hospital 的区别只有在英式英语才有，美式英语是没有区别的。

英式英语：

1）in hospital = 病人，生病在医院里躺着

My brother was hit by a car and he is in hospital now.（英式英语：表示病人）

2）in the hospital = 拜访的人，或是在医院工作的人（比如医生和护士）。今本上不是住院的病人都可以用 in the hospital.

My brother was hit by a car， and I am going to visit him in the hospital.（英式英语：表示住院了，而我要去探望他，但我本身不是病人）

美式英语：

1）in hospital = in the hospital = 既可以是住院病人，也可以是工作者，或是拜访者。如何区别在于句子的语义。比如：

My brother was hit by a car and he is in the hospital now.（美式英语：表示病人）

在英语的语法中，定冠词 the 特指建筑物，表示这个建筑物有关的人。而没有了定冠词 the，表示这个建筑物可以提供什么服务。

类似这样的还有in class = 在上课

in the class =在教室里，但不一定在上课
