能的原形和过去式

英语中表示能的可以有两个，一个是单词can，它的原形就是can，它的过去式是could。这两个都是后面接动词原形，但是could比can要委婉，语气更加客气。

另外一个表示能的是词组be able to，它也是后面接动词原形，它的be跟系动词be是一样的，有时态的变化。可以有过去时was， were， 现成时is， are。如 He was able to climb the mountain in half an hour three months ago. 三个月前他半个小时就能爬上山。它的一般疑问句是把be动词放到句子的最前面。如：Was he able to climb the mountain in half an hour three months ago?
